It is calculated around 12,000 species are found on Earth. Antshave evolved from being a seasonal pest (spring, summer) to be able to find them throughout the year.
The most common species in our country, naming some of the well known, are: Argentinian Ant (Linephitema humile), Loggerhead Ant (Pheidote pallidula) Garden Ant (Lasius niger), Pavement Ant (Tertramorium caespitum).
Ants, like humans, have their jobs. Here we find two examples:
- Some species can be considered livestock, in trees with aphids. They do not swallow the whole thing, but maintain a stable population for reproduction. They secure, this way, a stable power source.
- Others however opt for agriculture. They plant seeds and when they begin to sprout, they slice off the tip of the root. The plant is still alive, and it will be feeding the anthill.
