Traditionally, they were associated with malaria transmission, yellow fever, dengue and other diseases. Another equally importanteffect, especially in urban areas, are the effects of their bites (allergy.)
The most common species are black fly (Simulium spp.), Sandfly (Phlebotomus perniciosus), house mosquito (Culex pipiens).
In recent years the Tiger Mosquito (Aedes albopictus) has gained great notoriety through the effects of their bites and aggressiveness. The Asian mosquito was detected in Europe in 1979 and Spain had the first record in the counties of Barcelona in 2004. They nest in tires, planters and small puddles caused by irrigation or rainfall.
